Wanda Louise Hammond

Wanda Louise Hammond, age 87 of Jackson, Ohio passed away surrounded by her family at her home on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. She was born January 4, 1937 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Earl Hall and Dorothy Lewallen. Wanda was known by many as part owner of the original Handy Mart in Jackson and a receptionist at Dr. Billman's office. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, shopping, traveling, visiting the beach and being pampered. Her most notable hobby included being a prideful, avid and loyal Buckeyes football fan with her soul mate of 64 years, husband "Buckeye Roger" Hammond with whom she attended countless Buckeye football games traveling afar to many bowl and National Championship games. Wanda was known to be the life of the party with a distinct laugh that was contagious to those around her. She was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Wanda is survived by her children: Rhonda (Gary) Roseberry, Rhoda (Steve) Evans, and Mark (Kandy) Hammond, brothers-in-laws: Jim (Kaye) Hammond and Terry (Judy) Hammond, sister-in-law Vicki Hall, her grandchildren: Sarah-Beth (Leighton) Murphy, Leah Evans (Dan Bitler), Lindsey (David) Shotts and Allison Roseberry, great-grandchildren: Lucas, Lane, Morgan, and Madison Murphy, Evan and Austin Shotts, and Jack and Liam Bitler, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 64 years: "Buckeye Roger" Hammond, and her brother: Vaughn Hall. The family would like to send a special thank you to her long-term caregivers of 5 years: Jodi McFarland, Leanne Freeland, Savannah and Sydney Ireland, Alicia Ireland, and Alisha Moon; home health nurse Missy Radune; hospice caregivers of 2 years: Elizabeth "BeBe" Wilson, Julie Spencer, and Jessi Schackart. Wanda loved her caregivers as her own family. Funeral services for Wanda will be held at 3PM on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson, Ohio with Reverend Wendell Vermillion officiating and burial to follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
