Joseph Leroy "Buddy" Tanner

Joseph Leroy Tanner Sr “Buddy” age 82 of Jackson, Ohio passed away peacefully at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio on November 27, 2024 following a tragic accident. He was born in Jackson, Ohio on September 4, 1942 to the late Hearl Alfred Tanner and Hester Tanner (Zimmerman). On July 15, 1991 he married Daisy Irene Hoosier who survives. Also surviving are his children: Joseph (Terry) Tanner Jr. and Jacqueline (Anthony) Hollins of Chillicothe, Ohio, grandchildren: Trevor and Tyrell Jackson, Mary Tanner, Jasmine Scott, Derek Scott, Chance Hollins, Sylvia Tiller, great-grandchildren: Aiden Tennant, Madelyn, Tyson Hughes and Joseph Dyas, step grandchildren: Kayla, Brittany, and Austin, siblings: Charles "Eddie" Tanner and Opal Routt as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter: Teresa Jackson and siblings: Marshall, Goldie, Hearl, Johnnie, and Kathleen. Buddy was a United States Air Force Veteran and had retired from Lockheed Martin where he had worked for 30 plus years. He was elected multiple times as a Jackson County Trustee and will be missed by the agriculture community as he was a previous board member of the Ohio Cattlemen's Association and active with the USDA Farm Service Agency. We hope God will say of each of us at the end of our life here on earth, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in a few things, I will set you over many. Enter into the joy of the Lord.” (Matthew 25: 21 and 23). Deacon Joseph Tanner is and has been working diligently for his reward! Deacon Tanner is a longtime member of the Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Beaver, Ohio. Deacon Tanner was tested and ordained as Deacon back in October of 1995. His love of the word of God led him to further his Biblical education and he graduated from SOMA School of Ministry in 2002. The overflowing love of Christ came out in Deacon Tanner's life and teaching. He's been the Sunday School Superintendent at his local church for many years, SS/BTU President of the Piketon Sub-district Sunday School and worked with the Providence Evangelism Explosion Team. As a layman, Deacon Tanner was always a dedicated and supportive member by assisting his pastor, local church and the many activities and initiatives of the Providence Regular Missionary Baptist Association. Funeral services will be held at 12PM, Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Beaver, Ohio with Pastor Keith Jackson officiating and burial to follow in the Caldwell Cemetery, Richmondale, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 4-7PM Friday, December 6, 2024 at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson, Ohio. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home.
