Donald Lee Howard

Donald Lee “Dick” Howard, 92 of Jackson Passed away January 21, 2023 at the Four Winds Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Jackson. Born in Scioto County, Ohio, October 13, 1930 To Orlin G. & Edna (Addis) Howard. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1948. He married his High School Sweetheart, Patricia Mapes, February 12, 1949. Donald and Patricia Howard were the proud parents of Sally (Ted) Penix, David (Karen) Howard, and John Joseph Howard. Donald had four grandchildren, Brian (Angela) Sayre, Bethany (Kris) Penix-Sayre, Julie (Josh) Sayre, David (Allison) Sayre. He had thirteen great grandchildren, Morgan Sayre, Logan Sayre, Mason McGhee, Landon McGhee, Griffan Sayre, Weston McGhee, Evan Burroughs, Lily Penix, Luke Penix, Aubrey Sayre, John Henry Sayre, Lauren Sayre, Kate Sayre. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951 where he proudly served until 1955. He primarily served as an electrician aboard the USS Shelton, Where he obtained the rank of Chief Petty Officer during his tour of service. His military service made him a Veteran of the Korean War. Donald Howard was a proud member of: Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson, Ohio The Jackson Elks. The Jackson Chapter of the American Legion, a Charter Member of the Wagon Wheelers Square Dance Club and The Gold Wing Road Riders Motorcycle Club. He retired as Plant Manager of the Jackson Plastic Plant a Division of Lancaster Colony Corporation. He was proceeded in death by his wife: Patricia Mapes Howard in 1997, His stepfather, Colonel Howard Houck, United States Marine Corp., Brothe: John “Jack” Howard and Brother-in-law, Edwin “Bub” Mapes. Dick Howard is also survived by companion, Bonnie Grow, Sister-In-Law: Sharon Mapes Tipton and Ex Sister-In¬-Law: Pat Howard Riegel as well as several nieces and nephews. NO Services will be held per his request, Private graveside services will held by Pastor Janie Karl with burial following at the Fairmont Cemetery, Jackson, Ohio. Burial will be at the convenience of the family and will be conducted by Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Dick Howard will be announced at a later date.
