Kenneth Gene Rawlins

Kenneth Gene Rawlins, 83, of Jackson, was called home on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. Kenny was born on February 17, 1940 in Firebrick, Ohio, to Guy Thomas Rawlins and Garnet Irene (Jenkins, Rawlins) Wyatt. He spent his early years in Detroit, Michigan, returning to Ohio in 1947. Kenny graduated from Coalton High School in 1959. He married Connie Lou Jenkins on May 28, 1959. Kenny was a multi-skilled ‘jack-of-all trades,’ building and remodeling several homes and rental properties in the county. Whether pouring the footer and laying the foundation, to finishing the plumbing, wiring, roofing or building custom cabinetry, he worked with his hands tirelessly. He was employed at Big Tire Specialists, Oak Hill, through the 1960s-1970s; Cedar Heights Clay, Oak Hill, through the 1980s-1990s; and retired from AluChem of Jackson, in 2003. Kenny attended Trinity Chapel Church in Jackson, Ohio. He was an avid ‘westerns’ fan, loved train sets, and enjoyed restoring numerous antique cars. He spent many hours in the garage sanding, priming and painting cars and enjoyed traveling to various car shows on the weekends. His favorite past time was spending time with his beloved family and friends. He was affectionately known as “Papaw” by many. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Thomas Rawlins and sisters Norma (Rawlins Maerker) Hammond and Carol Rawlins; his son Kenneth Ty Rawlins, son-in-law Mike Davis; grandson Brandon Davis; sister-in-law Sharon (Jenkins) Wallin and brothers-in-law Roger Brooks and Jim Shook. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Connie Rawlins of Jackson, Ohio; their daughter Rhonda Davis of Circleville, and their son Troy Rawlins of Jackson; grandchildren Greg (Whitney) Davis, Kristin (Robert ‘Bobby’) Finnerty, Nick Davis, Jaimee (Davis) Williams, Ty Rawlins, Charlotte Rawlins, Linkyn Rawlins, and Jacob Rawlins; great-grandchildren Sage Finnerty (McKenzie Kelly), Madison Finnerty, Gideon Davis, and Roman Williams; great-great-grandson Baylor Finnerty; sisters Betty (Ron) Humphries and Carolyn Shook and brother Denny (Johnna) Rawlins; sister-in-law Sandra (Jay) McGowan and brother-in-law Fred Wallin; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Adena Home Care/Hospice, with special appreciation to Kenny’s nurses for their kindness and loving care. We would also like to thank Jason Brown and the staff of Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home for their compassionate guidance, their consideration and their kindness.
