Tommy Allen Cheek

Tommy Allen (Tom) Cheek, age 68 of Jackson, Ohio passed away peacefully with family by his side on Feb. 20, 2025 at the OSU Hospital in Columbus following a short illness. He was born to Johnie & Elsie Lemaster Cheek in Jackson on March 4, 1956. Tom is a 1975 graduate of Oak Hill HS where he was captain of the football team & also a member of the track team. After graduation, he enlisted to serve in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed aboard the USS Independence aircraft carrier in Norfolk, VA, the USS Voge in Mayport, FL & he also served in KIngs Bay, GA. He worked as a VA representative at the Univ. of Rio Grande while attending college there. In his later years he worked as a supervisor at Union Springs & Douglas Machine Shop in Chillicothe, OH. Tom was a disabled American veteran & he was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brother Holly Cheek; sisters Grace Radcliff, Ruby Smith & Candy Winteregg. He is survived by his loving wife, Edith Cheek; daughters Heather Cheek (Mac Kloberg) of VA & Lacie Brandon of OH; sisters Geneva (John) McFarland of IL & Cathy Planner of FL; brothers Bill (Jane) Cheek & Eddie Cheek of OH, sister-in-law Debbie (Cheek) Nemeth & special friend Mary Deeter. Tom is also survived by many very special nieces, nephews, cousins, family & friends. He loved nature, wildlife & gardening along with living in a cabin he built in the beautiful hills of OH. He enjoyed gathering with family & friends to share food & drinks, play poker, cook over an outdoor fire & deep sea fishing. Tom knew no strangers, loved to talk & loved to “stir the pot.” He loved his special pets: Butters, Nellie, Buddy, Willow, Spike & Lady. Arrangements are by Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson. Following Tom’s wishes, he will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, May 18th at 3PM at the Wellston American Legion. Family and friends are invited to come and share in food and fellowship. Tom’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the medical staff in the MICU at the OSU hospital for their tremendous dedication & care.
