Eilene K. Mapes

Born Eileene Kathryn Bennett on January 30, 1927 to Clifford L. Bennett and Gladys Mae Bennett (maiden name Hartley). Eileene married Thomas (Tommy) Daniel Baldwin on July 2, 1946. They lived in Chillicothe, Ohio. They had one son, Daniel Lavette Baldwin born to their marriage on July 31, 1948. Her first husband Tommy died suddenly on May at 24, 1959 at the University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was laid to rest in Fairmount Cemetery. Eileene lived in Chillicothe with her in laws for several years until she eventually moved to Jackson, Ohio where her son Danny completed his elementary education and then he attended Jackson High School. Eileene started working for Henry’s Grocery Store in Jackson, Ohio on March 20, 1967. She worked there until her retirement in 1985. Eileene married her second husband, Glendon E. Mapes on August 30, 1968. They were married until his death on March 21, 1974 of a Cerebral Thrombosis, and per his request he was laid to rest by his first wife in Fairmount Cemetery. Eileene was also preceded in death by her son Daniel L. Baldwin. She had a “spicy” personality and spoke her mind frequently. You were not in doubt about how she felt about any subject. At Jenkins she was well known as a dessert bandit as she would steal your dessert when you weren’t looking at mealtimes. She loved sweets. Her son Danny’s best friend, Carl Barnett visited her often during her years at Jenkins in Wellston, Ohio. Her room was filled with many, many floral arrangements and stuffed animals that he purchased for her. He loved her dearly as he adopted her as his second mother. Eileene’s second cousin, Butch Aldrich handled her affairs in her later years. He and his wife Sherry Aldrich visited her often. Her other cousin Ronald Aldrich, Sr. And his wife Eva Aldrich also visited, and they all celebrated Eileene’s birthday every year. Eileene enjoyed going on the trips and activities that Jenkins held for the residents. She was well known and loved by everyone who worked at Jenkins. Eileene was a faithful believer in Jesus and she was ready to go on to her life in heaven where all her loved ones were waiting for her to join them. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home with Deacon Emeritus Janie Karl officiating and burial in the Fairmount Cemetery to follow.
