Edna Carole Wells

Edna “Carole” Wells, age 100 of Jackson, Ohio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at the Jenkins Care Community in Wellston. She was born on February 24, 1925 in Ashland, Kentucky to the late Kerna and Effie Conley. Carole’s first husband, Woodford “Woody” Crace, served as a paratrooper in WWII. They were married on the same day the war was declared over, and she often reminisced how people were celebrating all over the world on the same day they were married. They were only married a few years because Woody succumbed to his injuries from WWII. Woody was Carole’s first love and the love of her life. He is honored with a block at the Jackson County Memorial Park, which is the former site of the Gibson Hotel where they spent their honeymoon. Sometime later Carole married Wayne Wells and they created a beautiful life on a farm in Scioto County where they raised cattle, gardened and collected antiques. Carole had many hobbies including sewing, quilting, music, cooking and traveling. Along with her love of genealogy, she enjoyed history and reading. During summers she enjoyed having her nieces and nephews visit the farm. Although Carole was unable to have any children of her own, she was a mother figure to her younger siblings and many nieces and nephews. She also had many cats who were truly her fur babies. Carole is survived by her sisters, Janet Bennett and Joyce Tomblin, a host of nieces and nephews and many friends. She will be missed by many as she never knew a stranger and treated those close to her as though they were a special gift. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Woodford Crace; her second husband Wayne Wells; along with her brothers, Junior and Cecil Conley. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Jenkins Care Community and National Church Residences Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home with burial in the Fairmount cemetery to follow.
