Dorothy Louise Hunter

Dorothy Louise (Yates) Hunter 92, died on June 27, 2018. She was born in Napoleon, Ohio on May 17, 1926 to David Snowden and Esther Lillian (Dawson) Yates. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, former Jackson County Sheriff Charles F. Hunter, an infant daughter Mary Ellen and four of her siblings; Helen Williamson, David S. Yates, Jr, Robert (Bob) Yates, and Kathrine King. Besides being a devoted mother and grandmother, Dorothy was an avid farmer and gardener. She grew acres of strawberries and was the proprietor of Hunter’s Chrysanthemums with years of repeat customers from all over Southern Ohio. Her vegetable garden this very year speaks to the love, joy and hope she found in plants and nature. Her fresh fruit pies were award winning. She enjoyed many other hobbies, activities and generously volunteered her time. Dorothy and Charles were founding and life long members of Grace United Brethren Church later Grace United Methodist in Jackson. Her faith was unwavering. She is survived by her children Beverly (Robert) Meng of Savannah, GA; Sharon Pfancuff of Watersound, FL; Kenny (Sally Rupert) Hunter of Carleton, MI; Patti (Randy) Armstrong of Houston, TX; and Stephanie (Steven) Mihelich of Chillicothe, OH. She has eight grandchildren Tiffany (Rob) Steffens of Brooklyn, NY; Courtney (Rex) Reynolds of Charlotte, NC; Ben Hunter of Washington CH, OH; Sara Hunter of Columbus, OH; James Armstrong of Atlanta, GA; Dr. Kyle Armstrong of Tulsa, OK; Emily Mihelich of Cincinnati, OH; and Joesph Mihelich of Chillicothe, OH; and two great granddaughters Alexa and Charlotte Reynolds. Also her sister Evelyn Scarberry of Lancaster, OH; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home, 135 Broadway St. Jackson, Ohio 45640 on Saturday, June 30th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 1st at the Grace United Methodist Church, 125 Locust St. Jackson, Ohio 45640 with Flora Rhea officiating.
