Dorothy Rose Delawder

The angels sang a celebratory hymn on the morning of February 23, 2017 as they welcomed Dorothy Rose Delawder into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Dorothy was born on December 28th, 1934 to Bird and Rachel Evans Rose. Dorothy was raised by her parents in Jackson, Ohio along with her brother, Doyle, for the first eight months of her life. Upon the death of her mother, Dorothy moved to Pumpkin Town in Gallia County to live and be raised by her uncle and aunt, Lewis and Sylvia Evans Delawder until finally making her home with them in Oak Hill, Ohio. Dorothy was a member of Holzer's class of 1955 three year RN-Nursing Program. Shortly after graduation from the program she worked for one year at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Also, one year at Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Dorothy is most remembered however by returning to her hometown of Oak Hill, Ohio to provide 40 years of service as a head nurse/charge nurse at Oak Hill Hospital. Dorothy was a kind and considerate person. She was an encouragement to others. Her strong Christian faith showed in her daily life. Dorothy was a member of the Gallia Baptist Church since the age of nine. Once she moved to Oak Hill she attended Trinity Wesleyan Church and their Sunday School Class. Dorothy always helped others by putting their needs before her own. For this reason, she never married or had any children as she devoted her life to caring for her parents until they passed away. Even though Dorothy had no children of her own, she held a special place in her heart for her niece, Lillian, who always watched over her aunt. As much as Dorothy loved to travel and spend time with her family and friends, she loved her alone time. She was a private person and who loved to read, watch t.v. and listen to music and loved all things pink. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Bird and Rachel Evans Rose; brother Doyle Rose, her mom and dad Lewis and Sylvia Evans Delawder, grandmother Rosetta Evans and nephew Gene Shook. Dorothy is survived by her sister-in-law Adlee Rose and her special and only niece Lillian Rose Shook and family. Following with Dorothy's wishes, she will be cremated with no visitation or service. Internment will be at the convenience of the family. Services are handled under the direction of the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home and Southern Ohio Cremation Services.
