Donald Eugene Caldwell

Donald Eugene Caldwell of Oak Hill passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2025. Don was an Oak Hill native and a 1966 graduate of Oak Hill High School, where he was Class President, played football and basketball, and was a member of Future Farmers of America. The quote beside Don's yearbook picture appropriately read " A Mind Full of Mischief." He is survived by his children Jerry (Charla) Caldwell of Oak Hill and Angela Caldwell of Oak Hill, grandchildren Michael (Ashtin) Caldwell of Sydney, Ohio, sisters Barb Caldwell of Oak Hill and Jennifer Saunders of Gallia, brother Chuck Caldwell of Oklahoma, and special cousin Kathy Maynard, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family. Don was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Wilma Caldwell, sisters Sue and Gail; brothers Bobby, Larry, and Rick; and special cousin and friend Herman Staten. Don was a truck driver and mechanic for many years, both locally and all across the United States. In his early days, he drove a truck for his uncles Don and Carl Cooper of East Rochester, Ohio. Later, he worked for many companies, including Sodrel and the U.S. Postal Service in Indianapolis, Indiana. Over the years, Don had many hobbies, including driving fast, (Ask anyone who ever rode with him), stock car and drag racing, fixing old cars, boating on the Ohio River and nearby lakes, watching MotoCross, horseback riding, riding his Harley, and being outdoors enjoying nature. Don also loved to "Wheel and Deal." He enjoyed buying, selling, and trading almost anything, especially if it had a motor. Also, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, family, friends, and his pets, Gabby, Taz, and Belle. Don was a true Renaissance man and a real-life MacGyver. He never knew a stranger and was willing to give a hand and help anyone who needed it. Don was known for his laughter and uncanny ability to make anyone feel welcome. He would often rehash with friends and family stories about the family swimming trips to Horton Hill Pond, picnics at Twin Creek, Corning cars at Keller's Rock on Halloween, family holiday shenanigans, legendary hog roasts at the Coopers, states he had visited, and people he had met. In recent days, Don liked to brag about his grandchildren Michael and Ashtin, whom he adored. Don was loved by many and will be truly missed. His memories and kindness will live on through those who cherished him. Per Don's request, he will be cremated and a Funeral Service/Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
