Arnold Coffey

Arnold Coffey, 83, passed away on September 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born April 29, 1943, in Magoffin County, Kentucky, Arnold was the youngest of four children born to Dormant and Margaret (Hale) Coffey. In 1951, the Coffey family relocated to Jackson County, Ohio, where Arnold would grow up and build a life defined by hard work, faith, service to others, and devotion to family. He graduated from Coalton High School in 1961, where he was a standout basketball player. A gifted scorer, he set scoring records on several basketball courts throughout the area and was well known for his accomplishments on the hardwood. He later served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve during the Vietnam era. Few people worked harder. Throughout much of his adult life, he balanced the considerable demands of farming—first dairy farming and later raising beef cattle—with a full-time career as an electrician in Columbus. A skilled tradesman, he became a Journeyman Electrician and ultimately served as a Field Superintendent for Roehrenbeck Electric. After retiring from the electrical trade in 1997, he scaled back his farming operation and found more time for some of the things he enjoyed. He was a familiar participant at car and tractor shows and remained an avid Ohio State Buckeyes football fan. Yet as full as his days were, work—and later retirement—never became an excuse for being unavailable to others. He was the kind of man who could always find time to help a neighbor, lend a hand, fix something that needed fixing, or take on one more responsibility because someone needed him. That spirit of service extended throughout his community. Among his many commitments, he served as a 4-H advisor and, through his involvement with 4-H and agriculture, was a fixture at the Jackson County Fair for many years, even after his sons stopped showing livestock. For many years, he was also an active leader at Coalton Freewill Baptist Church. Later in life, he continued his involvement in the agricultural community through several years of service with the Jackson/Vinton Farm Bureau. His faith and sense of responsibility to others were reflected in the way he worked, served, helped others, and lived his life. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Dormant and Margaret (Hale) Coffey; his brother, Buel Coffey; and his sister, Mildred Ross Fulton. He is survived by his sister, Marjorie (Margie) Brooks; his sons, Jeff (Cindy) Coffey, Scott (Debbie) Coffey, and Jarrod (C.J.) Coffey; and his grandchildren, Claudia (Zack) Vayda, Justin (Ashlyn) Coffey, Jacob Coffey, and Paige Coffey. He is also survived by his special nephew, Johnny (Lisa) Ross; several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members; his Fiancée, Tammy Krolow; and former spouse, Brenda Coffey. His was a life built through hard work, strengthened by faith, and measured not simply by what he accomplished, but by the people he helped along the way. He leaves behind the example of a man who understood that no matter how much work there was to be done, there was always time to do something for someone else. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson, with Arnold’s close personal friend, Reverend Jim McFadden, officiating and burial in the Evergreen Cemetery to follow. The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Friday, September 11th and from 10-11am Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the funeral home.
