Kathleen Ragland

Kathleen (Tanner) Ragland, 90, of Chillicothe, Ohio departed this earthly life to enter into eternal rest on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 8:50 a.m. surrounded by her children. Kathleen was born on February 19, 1934 in Jackson County, Ohio to the late Harold and Hester (Zimmerman) Tanner. On July 25, 1950 Kathleen was united in marriage to James Russell Ragland who preceded her in death on February 24, 1995. Surviving with memories to cherish are her children, Doris (Gene) Ford, Phyllis (Jeff) Ragland, Kevin Ragland, Danny (Lisa) Ragland and Susan (J.R.) Byrd; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Edward Tanner, Joseph (Daisy) Tanner and Opal Routt; sister-in-law Sylvia Tanner and special nieces, Dorthy Valentine and Mary Beard as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Bernard “Butch” Ragland; brothers and sister, Marshall, Hearl, Johnnie and Goldie. She was the matriarch of both the Ragland and Tanner families and drew great respect from all who knew her. Kathleen was employed in the cafeteria and retired from the Southeastern Local School District. She enjoyed spending her time cooking, gardening, visiting those in nursing homes, sending cards, trips to Amish Country, working crossword puzzles and family gatherings. She was very well known for her homemade pies, chicken and noodles and Christmas cakes and candies. Kathleen was a dedicated and active member of United Community Baptist Church and the Providence Regular Missionary Baptist Association, receiving special recognition by the OBGC Women’s Auxiliary as the 2021 Trailblazer of Providence Association. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home, 135 Broadway St., Jackson, Ohio. Burial will follow in Ragland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kathleen’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, Shriners Children’s, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607-1460 or your favorite charity.
